8/5/04 * the Burning Annie Newsletter
* Burning Annie falls into autumn... This issue: BA to hit New England, SoCal, and the great in-between...
* The BA Merch Depot has expanded again! New t-shirts, shorts, animal wear, buttons, magnets, and more. Plus, there's a sale-- it ends at 11:59pm Monday August 16... Don't be caught out with wack gear!
* UPCOMING SCREENINGS...
- #1: The Rhode Island International Film Festival in Providence, RI. Festival is August 10-15, but BA is Friday, August 13 at 3:30pm (venue info). Read the IndieWire article on the 2004 RIIFF. New Englanders, this is your chance to come out and represent!
- #2: Heads up, you SoCal-ites! BA is playing the 2004 Channel Islands Indie Film Festival in the onomatopoetic coastal community of Oxnard, California (just a short hop up the coast from LA). Our screening time and place will be announced next week, so check our Screenings page for updates. The CIIFF runs Wed, Sept 1 through Sun, Sept 5.
- #3: The West Virginia Filmmakers Film Festival in Sutton, WV. Held at the Landmark Studio for the Arts, it runs October 1-3. BA is playing Saturday, October 2, in the evening. Check our Screenings page and the WVFFF website for exact times in the next week or so.
- #4: As reported, BA has been selected by the IFP/west to be in the New Film Works series, which screens every month at the Silver Screen Theater in the incomparable Pacific Design Center of Los Angeles. We're now locked down for Thursday, October 21! This will fall through, however, if we can't find a sponsor to provide a digital projector and deck for that night. (Being the first digital feature invited to the NFP is great but has its drawbacks!) Please drop us a line if you have access to this equipment, or if you might be able to help hook us up with a vendor who wants to work with the IFP, the largest indie film organization in the world. :-)
- #5: We're coming to New York City! We're proud to announce our selection in the "New Filmmakers" Series at the Anthology Film Archives in New York City, hosted by the Angelika Theater. This one night only engagement is Wednesday, November 17. One $5 ticket gets you two short film programs at 6pm and 7pm, with the main feature (BA) around 8pm.
* Did everyone catch Rini Bell in Steven Spielberg's The Terminal...?
* PAST SCREENINGS...
- Nobody's quite sure how it happened, but Burning Annie played the Rehoboth Beach Summer Screening series last week in Delaware! We only found out about it today, in fact. The Rehoboth Beath Film Festival is in November, so it's hard to know if this is a good sign or a bad one. If anyone attended the screening, please drop me a line...
* Burning Annie Fun Facts-- Our website BurningAnnie.com experienced its busiest day ever last week, thanks to Glenn Reynolds at instapundit.com-- 36,800 hits in less than 24 hours!
* Hey-- I think I found the essay that got Max into college...!
The best to everyone,
_Randy (Mack)

"Strikes so close to home that it's impossible
to think about it in any sort of detached sense.
Succeeds in conjuring the tone and spirit
of 'Annie Hall'-- a remarkable thing, indeed.
BURNING ANNIE MAY BE THE BEST MOVIE
I'VE SEEN THIS YEAR."
- Entertainment Today
"Clearly a labor of love.
The best romantic comedy I've
seen in years. A GREAT FILM."
- MSNBC
"At once touching and funny, but
never cloying or cute-- credit
the deft writing and camera work.
Add an excellent score and
THIS LITTLE FILM COMES UP BIG."
- E. Hampton Independent
"Likable-- tons of 'tude!
SMART-ASS PUNS, WITTY REPARTEE,
sardonic asides, and
SHARP SOCIAL OBSERVATIONS.
Kim Murphy is luminous."
- Daily Variety
